Sadly, it isn’t possible for us to give a DiamondScore for diamonds certified by laboratories other than the worlds biggest and most respected.

If you would like to get a DiamondScore, we would recommend choosing “EGL International”, as they are considered to the most lenient of the big six. This is most likely to give you the closest to it’s actual DiamondScore.

If you really are intrigued, you can take it to an independent valuer or independent lab to verify what you have.

If you are buying a certified diamond

Buying a high quality diamond has in the past been a difficult process, with it being virtually impossible to compare diamonds like-for-like. That’s all changed with DiamondScore. However, to ensure you’re able to compare diamonds you’ll need to stick with one of the big six independent laboratories.

As with any industry, there are some people and companies who are looking out purely for themselves and are looking to maximise the profit from every sale they make. This makes it very tempting to exaggerate the quality and attributes of a diamond, especially to an unsuspecting public. Buying a diamond from the biggest independent laboratories ensures that the grading is consistent and of course, independent from the seller.

So always buy certified (we recommend GIA), always go to Quality Diamonds as they (we) score every diamond (after all, we developed the algorithm) and if you go to other websites, don’t forget to come back here to check it’s DiamondScore before you parting with your hard earned cash!

If you are selling a certified diamond

It’s not so easy to value a diamond that has been certified by the shop that has sold it. Independent laboratories have strict and consistent grading standards, which may or may not be present if the shop grades it own diamonds.

It is possible to get a “ball-park” selling value, but to find out the exact amount you would receive, you will probably need to take or send the diamond to the person who would eventually purchase it from you.
